Common causes for blindness & eye injury include:
-
Assaults or Attacks
-
Bright Lights
-
Chemicals
-
Electric Shock
-
Grit or other particles
-
Head Trauma
-
Sharp Objects
Objects, either solid or chemical in nature can enter the eye and cause changes in the eye resulting in blindness and eye injury. At work, employers need to evaluate the risk of eye injury and reduce the risk of injury where reasonably practicable. Employers should always attempt to remove the risk of an object or substance penetrating the eye and simply giving an employee suitable eye protection should be a last resort.
