If you have been the victim (either as a driver, passenger, cyclist or pedestrian) of a 'hit and run' or injured by an uninsured driver, then you may still be able to claim compensation for road accident injury. The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) was established as a central fund to provide a means of compensating the victims of road traffic accidents injuries by negligent uninsured and untraced drivers.
The MIB also deal with claims that involve foreign European Economic Areas vehicles. So if you sustained personal injury in an accident with a vehicle from the EEA, whether in the UK or abroad, the MIB may deal with the personal injury claim.
